The workshop “Sustainable economic development, stability and security in Central Asia amidst geopolitical and geoeconomic change” is organized by the Center for Central Asia Research of Corvinus University on 27 and 28 February 2018 in Budapest.
The workshop takes place back to back with a ministerial meeting of V4 and Central Asian countries on 27 February. The workshop will expand the discussion conducted in the framework of two smaller events organized by the Center on 26-27 October 2017 and on 26 February 2018 for researchers of V4 countries under the title “Strengthening cooperation among research institutes of V4 countries for the development of a political, economic and security strategy on Central Asia”.
While the two preceding workshops are focusing primarily on relations between V4 and Central Asian countries, the workshop on 27-28 February will expand the discussion to cover the most important neighbours of Central Asia, the European Union, China and the Russian Federation. On-going geopolitical and geoeconomic changes driven by China’s Belt and Road Initiative and efforts by the Russian Federation to expand the Eurasian Economic Union can help Central Asia achieve rapid and sustainable economic growth and strengthen its stability and security. Participants will examine the opportunities offered by these changes as well as risks involved, and formulate recommendations.
The Center for Central Asia Research plans to publish the outcomes of three workshops in a book format.
